Tanzania Peaberry 'a Hope Project Coffee'

This crisp, sweet coffee is extra special because it supports the Hope Project. The Project works much like a coffee cooperative in that it’s designed to improve conditions ‘on the ground’ for coffee families. Before the Hope Project, all smallholder coffee in Mbeya was processed at home by the farmers. The problem: most of the farmers lacked the water and processing equipment to bring out the best in their coffee and the result was a lower quality finished coffee. The Hope Project installed washing stations in the heart of the growing areas. To date, 23 coffee washing and drying stations have been set up. The result? Rising incomes for coffee families in Mbeya. This is a win-win situation since Mbeya is renowned for growing some of the finest arabica beans in East Africa! Peaberry coffee beans occur when coffee is grown in dry areas where the soil is low in trace elements of Boron. The tree responds by growing fruit that has only one round seed, instead of the typical two flat seeds.
